Samsung’s Cute AI Home Robot with Google’s Intelligence Set to Launch This Summer

Samsung is set to release its home AI companion robot, “Ballie,” this summer in the US and Korea. Developed in partnership with Google, Ballie utilizes Gemini AI and Samsung’s proprietary models to deliver personalized home assistance. With capabilities focused on adjusting lighting, managing schedules, greeting visitors, and providing styling and health advice, Ballie leverages audio and visual inputs to respond effectively.

Beyond standard smart home features, earlier demonstrations indicate that Ballie may also include innovative functions such as home patrolling, pet monitoring, and a front-facing projector. While detailed specifications are still pending, Samsung aims to demonstrate that this product is substantial rather than mere hype. Originally unveiled in 2020 and showcased at CES earlier this year, Ballie is positioned as a meaningful addition to the smart home landscape.

According to Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, the collaboration with Google allows Ballie to fulfill tasks in a personalized manner. The integration of Gemini’s advanced multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities is expected to usher in a new era of interactive home companions that adapt to user needs and preferences. Ballie will potentially understand commands through both audio and visual data gathered from its sensors and cameras.

For instance, when asked for outfit suggestions, Ballie could analyze what the user is wearing and make styling recommendations, such as accessory swaps or color changes. Furthermore, Ballie is expected to provide health-related guidance, sourcing advice from Gemini in response to user queries about wellbeing. While many functionalities are anticipated, specifics such as projector resolution, speaker quality, battery life, and charging options remain unclear.

Further details about Ballie are expected to be announced at an upcoming Samsung event, offering consumers the chance to learn more about this innovative home assistant.
