Polar Introduces New Subscription Plan Inspired by Garmin’s Approach

Polar has recently followed Garmin’s lead by introducing an optional paid “Fitness Program” for its Polar Flow app, set at approximately $11 per month. This new program is designed to provide users with personalized training plans that are adaptive and grounded in scientific principles, taking into account factors such as heart rate, fitness level, recovery, and lifestyle. The Fitness Program is compatible with the entire current lineup of Polar sports watches, allowing for tailored workouts that adjust based on individual recovery, goals, and daily circumstances.

It is important to note that while the core features of the Polar Flow app remain free, this subscription service is an optional enhancement, currently available for a 14-day trial to Android users in select European countries and the UK, with plans for iOS and US versions to follow. In the wake of Garmin’s recent struggles with its Connect+ paid tier, Polar’s opt-in Fitness Program aims to offer a clear and effective training approach. Priced at €9.99, or roughly $11 USD, the program enables users to eliminate the guesswork in constructing a balanced fitness routine.

The program utilizes data such as heart rate, training load, and recovery status to curate workouts. For instance, if the system detects poor sleep quality via the user’s watch, it may suggest a lighter workout instead of a more intense cardio session. This level of personalization highlights a potential incorporation of artificial intelligence in delivering tailored training recommendations.

Polar has reassured users that the free Polar Flow app and its essential features will continue to develop unaffected by the new subscription service. Additionally, compatible Polar watch owners can experience the Fitness Program without cost for the first two weeks, offering an enticing opportunity to enhance their fitness journey.
