Bluesky, the decentralized social network that is rapidly attracting former X users, has launched version 1.100 of its app. This update introduces a highly anticipated feature: chat reactions in direct messages.
Users can now respond to messages with emojis, similar to the functionality popularized by X. The initial selection includes five emojis—Thumbs Up, Grinning Squinting Face, Red Heart, Eyes, and Cry—with the option to access a full emoji library through a three-dot menu.
Originally launched as an invite-only beta for iOS in 2023, Bluesky later expanded to Android and has since become publicly accessible. The platform has successfully crossed the 30 million user mark, with many users migrating from X in search of alternatives following its acquisition by Elon Musk.
As part of its evolution, Bluesky is incorporating features reminiscent of X, thus enhancing user experience. In addition to chat reactions, Bluesky has transformed its Search page into a more dynamic Explore page.
This revamped feature allows users to not only search but also discover trending topics and suggested accounts tailored to their interests. At the top of the Explore page, users will find a customizable ‘Your interests’ section, which they can edit to keep the feed relevant as their preferences evolve.
The new Explore page also boasts a ‘Trending topics’ section that showcases discussions gaining traction, complete with ‘New’ and ‘Hot’ labels for added context. This section is complemented by a continuous feed filled with posts relevant to users’ interests.
The updates are now available for users on Android, iOS, and the web, making it easier than ever to explore new content and accounts on Bluesky.
