During its Q1 earnings call, CEO Mike Sievert provided further insights into T-Mobile’s upcoming satellite service currently in beta, named T-Satellite. He announced that the service will be available for a monthly fee of $10.
The new satellite service has quickly gained popularity, attracting hundreds of thousands of users during its trial phase. This surge in interest can be attributed to its ability to facilitate communication in previously unreachable areas.
The significance of this capability cannot be overstated; it not only enhances connectivity in emergency situations but also allows residents in remote locales to stay in touch with the outside world. The service is set to officially launch with a pricing structure of $10 per month.
Notably, T-Mobile customers subscribing to the Go5G Next and Experience Beyond plans will receive access to the satellite service at no additional cost. This is great news for existing customers, but it gets even better.
Sievert confirmed that AT&T and Verizon customers will also be offered the same pricing, marking a significant move in the industry. Sievert mentioned that the introductory rate will be maintained for at least one year, with commercial service anticipated to begin in July.
However, specific pricing details beyond the introductory offer were not disclosed. To support this service, T-Mobile has deployed over 550 satellites in orbit, with assistance from SpaceX.
While T-Mobile is making strides in satellite communication, competitors like Verizon and AT&T are also exploring similar services. It will be fascinating to see how this emerging market evolves over the coming years.
