Exciting ChatGPT Pro feature now available for free, but there’s a catch for users!

OpenAI has introduced its Deep Research feature for both free and paid users, including subscribers of the Plus, Team, and Pro plans. A new “lightweight” version has also been launched, facilitated by OpenAI’s O4-mini model. This more cost-effective alternative provides shorter yet detailed responses.

Users with Plus and Team plans can access 10 original Deep Research queries and 125 lightweight queries, while Pro users enjoy 125 queries of both types. Deep Research has emerged as a highly talked-about AI tool, allowing users to conduct in-depth research on various topics. To utilize it, users simply need to submit a subject for the AI to investigate.

The AI then searches through numerous websites, including community forums like Reddit, to gather relevant information and compile a comprehensive report. Initially, Deep Research was exclusive to ChatGPT Pro subscribers. OpenAI later announced that access would extend to Plus and Team subscribers, and now, even free users can utilize the feature.

Following this, OpenAI declared the launch of a lightweight version of Deep Research via a post on its X account. This version is designed to be nearly as intelligent as the original while offering a more economical option, aimed primarily at free users. However, it does come with limitations; free users can submit only five Deep Research queries per month.

If they reach this limit, they must either upgrade to a paid plan or wait until the following month to continue using it. However, subscribers to the Plus or Team plans have the advantage of accessing both the original and lightweight versions of Deep Research. Pro users also have similar access, with various limits in place.

Interestingly, Gemini, another AI tool, had a similar rollout pattern and user limits for its Deep Research feature, raising questions about the coordination between these tools.
