Gemini Live’s Camera Search Feature May Soon Be Integrated into Google’s New AI Mode

Google is making significant strides with its innovative “Live for AI Mode,” as indicated by recent discoveries in the latest beta version of the Google app. This new feature is designed to enhance real-time voice conversation capabilities, similar to Gemini Live’s Project Astra, and is expected to offer a more dynamic search experience. The integration aims to combine the existing visual identification features of AI Mode, supported by Google Lens, with the newly introduced functionalities that have been made free for users. Recent code revelations suggest that “Live for AI Mode” will be incorporated within Google Lens, not only enabling voice search but also allowing for volume control, response interruption, screen and video sharing, and providing transcripts laden with web links.

Previously, Google’s Project Astra was available only to those who paid for the Gemini Advanced subscription. However, following its recent release for free use, it has now become accessible to a broader audience. Similarly, AI Mode was initially under a paywall but has now lost its Gemini One AI Premium exclusivity, making it available to all users in the U.S., further paving the way for this integration. Earlier this year, AI Mode also incorporated features from Google Lens to improve visual search, signaling Google’s push towards richer, more engaging user experiences.

With the anticipated “Live for AI Mode,” users can expect conversations with the AI tool to become even more interactive and efficient. While the exact launch date remains uncertain, the convergence of both services appears to be the natural next step for Google, thus elevating the conversational aspect of visual search in its applications. As development progresses, users will also benefit from features like persistent notifications, dedicated buttons for audio and video control, and the ability to revisit chat transcripts with included links.
