The United States Postal Service (USPS) is currently beta testing a new “Informed Delivery Mobile” app for Android, aiming to enhance user experience compared to the existing features available through its primary mobile app. The current system is criticized for its web wrapper interface that lacks push notifications and requires users to sign in frequently. The dedicated app promises a more user-friendly interface, incorporating detailed push notifications for various package updates, such as delivery status and pickup availability. In addition, it maintains the existing functionalities of daily mail previews and package tracking, which are accessible via the USPS website.
Individuals interested in testing the beta version can join a specific Google Group and subsequently download the app from the Google Play Store. However, the timeline for a broader public release remains uncertain. The Informed Delivery service allows users to see what mail and packages are scheduled for delivery, offering convenience to those tracking incoming items. Currently, users can access this service on their computers or smartphones through the USPS mobile app.
Unfortunately, the mobile experience is often deemed unsatisfactory. Using the USPS mobile app requires users to log in each time, leading to the frustration of accessing the desktop version through a web wrapper. This version lacks basic features such as push notifications, relying solely on email for delivery updates. The newly developed app seeks to address these issues by providing an intuitive means to access the service while in private beta testing.
Interested users can sign up by joining the ‘USPS Informed Delivery Mobile Beta Test’ Google Group and following simple instructions to download the app. The app includes all necessary features while adding granular notifications, although the user interface may improve in future updates as it gains wider availability. The app offers several functionalities, including mail previews, grayscale images of incoming mail, and tracking options for packages, ensuring users remain informed about their deliveries.
