Google is enhancing the security of its Pixel phones by developing a new feature aimed at detecting bank scams that occur during screen sharing sessions. This initiative, known as “BankScamCallDetectionService,” is designed to prevent scammers from impersonating your bank and potentially draining your account. Currently, Pixel phones are equipped with a built-in “Scam Detection” feature, which alerts users about suspicious calls.
When a sketchy caller tries to rush you into sending money, your phone responds with audible alerts, vibrations, and pop-up messages, warning you to be cautious. Building on this foundation, Google is taking steps to outsmart scammers who utilize screen sharing as part of their deceptive tactics. Reports suggest that this upcoming feature can identify potential scams without needing to listen to conversations.
Recent findings by Android Authority have revealed that Google is testing the “BankScamCallDetectionService” within the latest Google Play Services beta. This feature is specifically designed to counteract screen-sharing scams. It becomes activated under a specific set of conditions: when you receive a call from an unknown number, have a banking app open, and are engaged in screen sharing.
If all these criteria align, your phone will issue an alert. When such a scenario occurs, you will receive a prominent warning on your device, giving you the opportunity to hang up or report the suspicious number immediately. Google is also committed to maintaining an updated list of banking apps to ensure that this protective feature remains effective.
Additionally, with Android 15 already offering capabilities for safeguarding sensitive information during screen sharing, it’s likely that this new scam detection feature builds upon that secure foundation. Although it is still undergoing testing, the feature is expected to be rolled out via Google Play Services in the near future.
