Google Drive is set to undergo an update that will introduce a more user-friendly menu layout. This new design will include larger labels within the floating action button (FAB), enhancing the overall experience for users. Information from version 2.25.180.0.all.alldpi suggests that these changes could be rolled out soon.
Last year, Google Keep Notes received a significant update that streamlined the process of creating various note types by consolidating options within the app’s floating action button. An APK teardown has indicated that Google Drive may be implementing a similar feature in the near future. Currently, when users tap the FAB—represented by a plus button in the lower right corner of the app—it triggers a menu that emerges from the bottom of the screen.
This menu, which covers a portion of the interface, provides different options for document management. The new design will replace the traditional sheet-style menu with a series of buttons that expand from the FAB. This updated menu will feature larger labels and occupy less screen space, presenting a more modern look.
Additionally, a setting similar to the one introduced in Keep Notes, which allows users to opt out of the expanding menu, may also be included in this update. Another exciting addition is the integration of Gemini functionality. This new feature will allow users to generate summaries of their files directly from the menu that appears when tapping the three-dot icon next to each file.
As these changes have already been enabled in the latest version of the app, a broader rollout appears imminent. This update promises to enhance usability and productivity within Google Drive.
